Healthcare & Medical Insurance
Our healthcare system is the best in the world, but the costs of medical care and medical insurance are bankrupting American families. Several key issues contribute substantially to the high cost of medicine and medical insurance: (1) government medical insurance mandates that eliminate cost and competition; (2) malpractice litigation costs; (3) flawed federal tax policy; and (4) restrictions on interstate competition among health care insurers.
As your Congressman, I will:
- Work to eliminate insurance exclusions based on pre-existing conditions.
- Support insurance policy portability so that when you change jobs, your medical insurance goes with you rather than your losing it.
- Support eliminating federal regulations and mandates that stifle competition in the health insurance market, while encouraging the individual states to look to their own laws to eliminate costly regulations and mandates.
- Support an English-style “loser pays” medical malpractice system to end frivolous lawsuits, reduce medical malpractice costs and reduce the cost of care.
- Support a fiscally responsible program of coverage for those who cannot afford coverage on their own; and ban altering or dropping coverage when a person becomes sick.
- Support a meaningful income tax deduction for individuals who pay their own medical insurance premiums.
- Support small business health insurance pools to spread risk across a larger base and lower premiums for America’s small businesses.
