The U.S. Economy

Our economy is the foundation upon which America’s strength is built, and successful businesses are the backbone of that economy. Congress should work diligently to provide a responsible business-friendly environment, because it is America’s businesses, not government, that will lead us out of the current recession. Programs such as “Cash for Clunkers” and tax schemes such as “Cap and Trade” are absolute proof that Congress and the Administration do not understand the harmful unintended consequences of such legislation, which is contributing to the gradual de-industrialization of America.

As your Congressman, I will:

  • Work to help American businesses. We do not help America by passing laws that make it either advantageous or necessary for U.S. businesses to relocate to foreign countries because the costs of doing business in America are too high.
  • Work to reduce the corporate income tax rate – a corporate tax rate that is the second highest among the world’s developed countries – so our businesses are not incentivized to leave because of shortsighted federal tax policy.
  • Support international trade policies that responsibly open our markets to foreign competition only if those foreign markets are equally open to American businesses.
